Victoire Concours de Machines 2017 – take-apart gravel bike

In 2017, the Concours de Machines returned to Ambert for its second edition, on the theme of the light randonneur. Twenty-four builders from six countries lined up for two uncompromising stages: 230 km and more than 4,600 m of climbing on back roads and trails on the first day, four mountain passes on the second. The jury scored speed, reliability, weight and innovation. Eighteen bikes reached the finish; this one came fifth.

This bike matters in our history: it was Victoire, together with 200 magazine, that had revived the Concours de Machines the year before. It has since been rebuilt as a gravel bike and has done a lot of riding. The paint shows the marks of those years, but the bike still has tens of thousands of kilometres ahead of it.

The Reynolds 853 frame separates for travel: an S&S coupling on the down tube and a Breakaway system at the seatpost. The crankset is a Spécialités T.A. prototype that foreshadowed the Horizon model. The rest of the build: SRAM Force 1 × 11 groupset, SRAM Force disc brakes, Tune wheels, 650B × 42 tyres (the maximum size), Chris King headset and Thomson seatpost. Travel case not included.
